Task:Conductonline broadcast of a medical conferencewith connection of remote speakers and attendance control.
The All-Russian conference on genomic medicine has been held in St. Petersburg for the seventh time. It shares experiences not only of Russian but also foreign doctors. Due to the pandemic, the event was held online: most participants and speakers connected remotely.
In addition, the conference is part of the continuing medical education (CME) program. This is a postgraduate education system that allows doctors to improve their skills and enhance professional level. CME points were awarded for attending lectures.
We had to decide how to track participants' attendance so that everyone received the correct number of points.
Solution
We conducted the broadcast on the Facecast platform. In addition to the registration form, a mandatory requirement for the broadcast was to enable the viewer control function, which would help understand whether the participant was actually engaged in studying the material or if the video was playing in the background.
Participants of the conference who planned to watch it remotely needed to register on the website. In the form, they provided their full name, occupation, email, and indicated whether they needed CME points.
A few hours before the conference, participants received a personalized link by email, through which they accessed the section they were interested in. During viewing, windows appeared in browsers where participants marked their attendance. Information about the number of watched hours, confirmed by closing the banner, was displayed in the extended statistics of Facecast. Using this, the organizers decided on awarding CME points.
The scale is also impressive: the conference lasted three days. On the last day, we broadcasted from four halls simultaneously. At the venue, 18 people worked: each hall had a director, a live broadcast engineer, and two operators. A support service handled all participant questions, and Denis Zolotov was the project technical director.
Results
At the venue in the D. Ott Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, we workedthree days.
